Dear Mr. President
I'm not american. I don't vote. Because of that, is easy to think that I don't expect nothing from you, but I do. First because you still are the leader of one of the must powerfull and influential country in the world, second because what I wish from you, I would wish of every leader of every place in the whole world.
Please respect people. Respect the right to love and to marry and to adopt and to identify as a diferent gender and to dress as a diferente gender and to work for a fair payment and to dye their hair and to make tatoos.
Please remember we are all humans, no matter or race, sexuality, religion or favorite bubblegum flavor.
If you could do this, I'm already glad. The rest of the expectations I leave for the letters of the ones from the states - they probably know better.
Thanks for the atention
Graciously Diego Matioli

Dear Mr. President,
If I hadn't seen what the job you won tonight does to people, I would congratulate you. As is, I am sorry that you have to bear the burden of the expectations and dreams and criticisms of an entire country. I hope you find enough joy in the next four years to make it worth it.
If I could ask one thing of you, it would be that you listen.
Listen to the people, even if we have awful ideas and unreasonable expectations. You're supposed to be our representative, after all.
Listen to the opposition, past the hate and the bitterness and the unfair criticism, to the people underneath who care about this country as much as you.
Listen to the experts, and don't let your ideology get in the way of the facts. We didn't elect you to be the smartest person in America, so don't get too enamored with your own brilliant ideas.
Listen to the past. If something didn't work before, you had better have a darn good reason for thinking things will be different this time around.
Listen to the rest of the world. Their concerns shouldn't be foremost in your mind, but no country is an island. Except Australia. And Japan. Actually, that's a group of islands. Regardless, our actions affect those around us, and you need to take that into account.
Listen to the numbers. I know that you want to provide for the country, to give us the best life that you can. We appreciate your compassion. However, we also appreciate knowing that the country won't be going bankrupt in the next few years. Remember that causing problems for the next guy to take office may be good for your approval rating, but it hurts those of us who have entrusted you with power.
Listen to your detractors. Plug your ears through the shouting, and if you hear the words "birth certificate" or "Muslim", feel free to tune out, but listen to what the people who disagree with you say. When they have the title of "Republican", it isn't so hard to listen because it feels like that title gives them the right to speak, but even when the Fox News logo is in the corner, that doesn't mean everything the person says is invalid.
And finally, listen to to the people who love you. You can't do it alone, and luckily, you don't have to. Treasure the moments you have to be a husband, a father, and a friend to the people who know you as a person. I'm sorry that we probably won't be giving you many of those moments, but with luck, the next four years will be smooth sailing and you can take a week off every now and then.
I'll be praying for you.
-A Citizen

Dear Mr. President,
Your term in office will be stressful, but you can always rest easy in the fact that no matter what you say or do, you will not cause the end of the world. People may believe you hold this power, but you don't, so don't panic too much.
You can, however make a small difference in this nation if you try. No matter what you do, people will be against you. I will be against you at some times during this term, I can guarantee it. But you should remember that there will also always be people standing with you, no matter what it is you're doing. If you fail at one thing, you may succeed in another. So keep pushing, keep trying to make this nation one you can be proud to live in. And know that no matter what you do, I will still be proud to be an American.
The best of luck to you in your presidency, Naomi

Dear Mr President,
Congratulations on becoming or continuing on as the president of the United States. I want you to know that though I am not from the United States personally, I have friends and family, role models, and so much more from your country, and I want what is best for them. I want my friend to be able to marry his partner, because it's just not fair for him to love him so much and not be allowed to marry him, and it would mean so much if he could. I want my best online friend to be able to be happy throughout her life, and be protected from the bullies at her school. I want you to think about every choice you make and how that has affected each and every person in your country. And we know that this is a lot on your shoulders, but every move you make will affect someone so please, please do your best. And I trust you will.
Best wishes,
Nel

Dear President Barack Obama,
First, I would like to sincerely congratulate you on being elected by the American people to serve a second term. Your hair has begun to gray since you took office in 2008, and I'm sure that with the level of stress your job poses, the color will become ever more present within the next four years. It is a hard job, and I commend you for the courage that it must have taken to accept such a demanding position.
On a more serious note, this being your last term in office as President of the United States of America, it is also what political theorists like to call your "lame-duck" term. I implore you, make good choices despite the fact that the pressure of the democratic vote looming over your shoulder has been released. Compromise is better for the United States than disagreement; and, above all, the civil liberties of the American people must always be protected, to the best of your abilities.
The most important issue at hand is not the federal deficit, nor is it the current level of U.S. national debt. The improvement of programs regarding health care, the U.S. economy, taxation of the American people, and social reform is vital to the survival of this country, but it is not what will guide it towards liberation from its current state.
America has been polarized such that neither party in power can agree with the other. Cities, districts, and even states have become so politically right or left that geography also becomes a barrier between two opposite factions. Representatives and senators vote regardless of personal beliefs or even logic, and instead favor the platform of the party which they represent. Most daunting is the fact that independents are left without representation from either side, and are forced either not to vote or to choose one extreme or the other, despite disagreeing equally with each. The United States has become imprisoned in the shackles of its own inability to change or adapt.
Therefore, it is now your duty to become the vehicle for the reconciliation of two opposite extremities. That is the formula for American success, and that is what will be required of the U.S. government in order to solve the problems that past actions have created. Please take my words into consideration as you govern this wonderful country of freedom and prosperity for the next four years.
Good Luck and Godspeed,
A minor

Dear Mr. President,
Congratulations on your second term. First and foremost, I have to say I'm not happy you're president, but I'm not unhappy either. I'm just glad it wasn't Romney. All I want from you Mr. President is this term, be a little more like a you, or who you say you are. Be the third party- don't keep Washington divided in two. I should have voted for Gary Johnson, even though I live in New York and it always goes Democrat anyway, but I figured a vote for you was a vote against Romney. That was a mistake.
Most of all, I just want you to do good for this country. I want to know that as a woman, I can have an abortion if the case ay arise when it is vital to my survival. I want to know that my queer friends can be married one day, and I think you can help with that cause. I also want the government to stop spending so much God damn money we don't have, and make the dollar worth something again. We need to be domestic. We need to focus on getting this country back on its feet. I trust you enough to give you a second chance, Mr. President, but I'm not going to cry and worship you like the pawns on my Facebook newsfeed.
Good luck, Mr. President,
Sasha, Brooklyn NY

Dear Mr President,
In the next four years I would like to see your country become greater than it has been. Not in finance or power over the rest of us but in helping to make this world better for everyone. I don't mind how small a change you start with, I just hope you take steps towards a better world.
From a girl in Wales.

Dear Mr President,
You give off this 'cool' attitude and that makes you likeable, and you seem like a nice guy and probably are for all I know. But I do have to ask, why so many drone attacks? No matter how much you argue with me that they 'take out terrorist threats', they are not accurate and kill far too many innocent civilians! If you continue this it reflects badly on your country as well as your self. If you continue with these types of attacks, the middle eastern countries will just increase with anti-american sentiments, creating more extremists, thus more people willing to resort to terrorist tactics. Therefore, just creating a circle of hate-on-hate between the middle east and america. I beg of you please, stop with the drones! The loss of innocent life is not worth it! Just try looking at things from other perspectives, not just American! This will overall make you a better president and nicer person, thus leaving a better legacy, and I'm sure you want that.
Furthermore, can you please shut down Guantanamo Bay as you promised when you were first elected. I know it's not that simple. But you are occupying illegal land and committing terrible criminal acts.
One last thing, seriously you're not going to charge George W. Bush and Dick Cheney with war crimes? You make me think you don't even care about other countries than America! Do you care?
Anyway, just remember to look at things from a large variety of perspectives and remember we are all human, each individual person, human.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and I hope you have a good four more years, and do leave a good legacy behind. I could've gone on much longer, but these are my main concerns for now, and I'm sure it leaves you with quite enough to be getting on with.
Yours Sincerely, A concerned human being.

Dear Mr. President,
In the next four years, it would be cool if you could make environmental protection and cleaner energy a priority on your agenda.

Dear Mr. President,
Please remember to honor your principles over your sponsors. You will leave a legend behind you and I hope that it will be one which includes progress for all oppressed groups. Please do everything within your control to continue to advance women's equality. Select justices (if and when the opportunity arises) who will not hold our country back, but will make judgments which move the US forward toward a more equitable state. Select justices who will uphold standards like Roe v. Wade, not tear them down. Please be an example for and encourage congress to work together across party lines in order to achieve what is best for our nation, not for their party or pocketbook. Remember this is the most important job you will ever have and please, Mr. President, do your very best every single damn day to make the US a wonderful country to be a part of.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth

Dear Obama,
I did not vote for you, because I'm not sure I can trust you to make the best long term choices for the country. I don't agree with your moral views on many thing. That being said, I didn't vote for anyone, because they all didn't ring true. But even though I didn't vote for you, it doesn't mean you shouldn't listen. Nor does it mean I don't have hope for what can happen.
This term is very important. And I don't want you to be the spokesman for the Democratic Party. I want you to be the spokesman for America. Don't talk about change, just do it. And don't change us into social conformists, but into a surprisingly good alternative. That's how we started. And I'd rather go out in a metaphorical blazing explosion than become a non-entity; I don't want the US to become like the rest of the UN, because we easily have the capability to lead them forward into the 22nd century. Even if it isn't the way they are going, we have the chance to step into a new direction; they have been wrong before, so why not show THEM a better way.
Ethical and Moral debates will arise. Don't go for the popular vote, go for the right one. Take as many opinions as you can, and find a balance that does not insult the other side. These are more than important. And many of them mean more than they do on the surface and disagreement on these can be seen as insults.
So, please do not insult the other side lightly. They may seem moronic for believing what they do, but because they believe them, there is likely some truth you do not see. Nor condemn their past actions in stressed times, for if you endorse needless criticism, it's going to bite you in the ass.
Please look at international policy. Our immigration system isn't working, and we need to reform it. We cannot close our doors so easily to those who fear for their lives like the Guatemalans were. Help Mexico get violence under control. And above all..... DON'T PISS OFF CHINA PLEEEASE!!! We owe them money, and their collection agency has a billion 'collectors.'
It will be hard, but I wish you the best, Adin
(P.S. Congress reform is second on my Christmas wish list. Right after world peace)

Dear Mr. President
I would appreciate it if you removed the 3 week old cup of milk and frosted flakes from my bedroom. It is moldy and it smells.
